My first visit to the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway 55 years ago! The only engine running was British Railways-built North Eastern Railway design J72 0-6-0T 69023 Joem. Back then the reversal at Keighley was quite long and involved shunting the coach out of the platform and running round south of the station. Presumably because BR wouldn't allow the KWVR to do this alongside the yard to the north.
HFF to everyone. Have a great weekend.

A shot from our Boxing Day visit to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. With sanders on to help rail adhesion on this damp day Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 45212 works the 14.25 to Oxenhope Mince Pie Special out of Keighley station.
Interesting to see the lamp on the lower & offset to the right bracket which is authentic for its last years on BR. The top brackets were removed to avoid any danger of the fireman getting close to the overhead electric wires. Having said that 45212 retains its top bracket too!

We made a brief visit to Keighley over the weekend of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway's March Gala to catch a glimpse of the two visitors: rebuilt Scot 4-6-0 46100 Royal Scot and GWR pannier 0-6-0PT 7714.
Here 7714 is drawing forward its empty stock into the headshunt at Keighley out of the way of the arriving 13.35 from Oxenhope double-headed by 41241 and 78022.
It is carrying BR shed code 6J which was Croes Newydd although 7714 was allocated to (& withdrawn from) the shed in 1959 when it was still in the Western Region as 89B. The engine was sold to the National Coal Board and worked out of a colliery near Rhymney in South Wales before purchase for preservation in 1973. It has been based at the SVR for many years.

On the preserved Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Midland Railway Fowler 4F 0-6-0 43924 backs down into Keighley station to work the 14.10 train to Oxenhope. The locomotive is 100 years old.
HFF and have a great (& safe) weekend.

On the preserved Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Midland Railway Fowler 4F 0-6-0 43924 noisily and smokily climbs southwards up the gradient from Keighley with the 14.10 train for Oxenhope. It is carrying a headboard with "43924 The Big Goods Centenarian" written on it. This commemorates its building at Derby works in 1920.
