Unnoticed by the swans, the 11.20 from Loughborough to Leicester North heads across Swithland viaduct pulled by Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521.

Yesterday was the last day in service for Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521 before withdrawal for overhaul again & Alex the fitter chalked up the smokebox accordingly. Dave and myself were the rostered crew for the morning turn on the engine and I took this shot in platform 2 before departing with the 11.20 train to Leicester.

A reworked & re-cropped version of an earlier post. Ivatt 4MT 2-6-0 43106 darkens the skies over Lancashire while filling its tender from the archaic looking water column. Her blower is hard on to lift the smoke & get up steam ready to depart the shed for the Severn Valley Railway at Bridgnorth and a new life in preservation. Stanier 8F Class No 48476 had its day of fame on 4th August double-heading 1L50, the RCTS 'End of Steam' tour with Standard 5 73069.

This was our second Datex trip and before returning to Loughborough Alan and the 2 participants were on the platform while he explained the workings of the reverser. The fire was in good shape so I took the opportunity to nip down and grab a shot of Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521.

Returning on Ivatt 2MT 46521 with a light engine Datex trip I had a pretty small fire on and with just the short climb out of Rothley ahead wasn't planning to put much more coal in the box because it would be downhill all the way to Loughborough. However, events dictated otherwise! At Rothley Stanier 8F 2-8-0 48305 was failed due to a stuck clack valve in the top feed. We were asked to take over its 6 coach train so I very quickly had to get a decent fire going for the climb to Leicester! Hence this impressive exhaust as we pulled away from Rothley Brook in the rain with the very late running 11.20 ex-Loughborough. All was well and much more enjoyable than a light engine run...

The Down Section signal is showing a green and Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521 heads off up the hill with 6 on for 216 tons. I'm not sure what the problem was but the service was running 23 minutes down and the train stood in the station for a good part of that time.

We did three return trips to Leicester North on Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521. I fired the first trip, drove the second (& Cliff fired) then let trainee Paul fire the third. He did well and here he is checking the fire as we were heading out of Loughborough to Quorn while Cliff watches the road ahead.

We didn't leave Loughborough until 8pm so by the time we reached Swithland Viaduct where we stopped for 15 minutes the light was going. We were the only train out on the line and all was fine on the footplate so I took the chance to grab another portrait of Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521 newly-painted in green.

The afternoon crew had just relieved us on shed and Ivatt 2 2-6-0 46521 heads off to take water before working the afternoon train.

8F 2-8-0 48624 is held at a red signal at the Loughborough Down Inner Home to allow Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521 exit platform 1 with the 13.15 dining train. Watched by Albert, this train is just entering the section to Quorn on its way to Leicester North.

Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521. We waited at Rothley with the southbound Elizabethan dining train for Peak diesel 45041 to clear the section from Leicester North.
