Not a lot of motorised transport in view on this road in Datong 40 years ago. HFF to everyone. Enjoy the weekend.

An image from 42 years ago to the day on our road trip around South Africa. Driving up on the N1 to the Du Toitskloof Pass (820 metres, 2,690 ft) in the Hawequas Mountains east of Capetown heading north eventually to Kimberley. This road is now the regional route R101 since the opening of the Huguenot Tunnel on the N1 in 1988.

Medan North Sumatra Indonesia 1st June 1980

A fairly early Sunday morning drive around the city of Medan. This is Jalan Letjen Suprapto although I notice that the modern spelling (from Google) is different from that on the street sign on the far left. I worked in the Mobil Oil Indonesia office further back on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman - the former pre-war Shell office.

HFF San Francisco California USA 31st October 1978

The Golden Gate bridge seen from the Marin County end looking south. We were returning to San Francisco from a visit to Muir Woods redwood forest. I was attending a geophysical conference in SF & took an afternoon off, rented a car with a colleague & explored the countryside north of the bay area. HFF to everyone & have a great weekend.

I have not walked over (a surprisingly empty )Trent Bridge into Nottingham since 1971 when I lived in West Bridgford. Trent Bridge opened in 1871 replacing the much-repaired Medieval river bridge dating from the 12th century. The famous Trent Bridge county cricket ground is behind the camera on the south bank of the Trent in West Bridgford. HFF and have a great weekend.

Sernada do Vouga Aveiro Portugal 25th July 2014

04 Jun 2020 18 15 270
It's a good job that traffic light is showing red! A two car Aveiro to Sernada do Vouga diesel railcar takes priority over the car on the Rio Vouga road/railway bridge just to the south of Sernada station. The way it should be! HFF everyone. Have a safe weekend.

Firth of Forth Fife Scotland 5th September 2018

It is about 9 miles from my position on the sea front east of Burntisland in Fife to the various Forth Bridges. The closest & most famous of the three is the railway cantilever bridge opened in 1890 by a consortium made up of the North British, the North Eastern, the Great Northern & the Midland Railways. Beyond that is the 1964 suspension Forth Road Bridge - now used by buses, taxis, cyclists and pedestrians only. Dominating both of these is the new M90 cable-stayed road bridge known as the Queensferry Crossing opened in August 2017.

Wolsztyn is about 120km east of the German border at Frankfurt-am-Oder and the last 50km drive was on very pleasant country roads like this.

We didn't leave Loughborough until 8pm so by the time we reached Swithland Viaduct where we stopped for 15 minutes the light was going. We were the only train out on the line and all was fine on the footplate so I took the chance to grab another portrait of Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 46521 newly-painted in green.
