Tyndrum Scotland 2nd October 2007

26 Feb 2025 15 17 81
Early morning mist hangs in the glens while the rising sun turns the mountain tops red. Seen from the window of the Euston to Fort William sleeper train pulled by EWS Class 67 diesel 67007 which I had taken from Crewe the night before. One of the delights of taking the Scottish sleeper trains, whether to Aberdeen, Inverness or Fort William (I have slept on all three), is waking up at about 07.00 and opening the window blind to stunning scenery like this. A great way to start any day!

Great Western Hall 4-6-0 4965 Rood Ashton Hall hauling Vintage Trains' "The City of York" special from Tyseley to York approaches, at speed, the Whetstone foot crossing between Blaby & Enderby, south of Leicester. 4965 was thought to be 4983 Albert Hall when it was first saved from Woodhams scrapyard in Barry South Wales. However during restoration it was discovered that Swindon had actually switched frames in 1962 so it reverted to its true identity again.

One less coal-fired power station. The cooling towers of the Thorpe Marsh Power Station which closed in 1994. The generator, control room, etc, were demolished some years ago but the towers lasted until 2012. HFF & have a great weekend.

Neil and myself crewed the 7F on a Russ Hillier photo-charter, together with 8F 48305, and it was raining most of the time, hence the storm sheet - not that it kept us dry!
