Anne Hathaway was William Shakespeare's wife and this was the house where she grew up. The earliest part of the house dates to 1463, when it was still a three-roomed building with only one floor; the higher part is 17th century, being built between April 1610 and October 1624. HWW to Everyone & a Happy New Year.

HBM Freeman's Common Leicester 3rd September 2024

06 Sep 2024 12 12 141
The Victorian cattle market was located at Freeman's Common until 1990 & this Grade II listed building, now the Counting House pub, was the market refreshment rooms. The redevelopment of the area into a retail park & cinema complex took place in the mid-90s and involved a new road lay-out with multiple traffic lights and one-way systems. The clock tower is a fine feature & would have been important to know the time when it was a market but sadly today the clock is not functioning. HBM to everyone. Enjoy the day.

Waterfall Staffordshire 30th May 2021

03 Jun 2021 21 16 300
Last weekend we did a 7 mile Bank Holiday walk around the Manifold Valley & passed New Hall in the village of Waterfall as we climbed up out of the Hamps valley. This was a short detour off our planned route to have a beer at the Red Lion in the village. From "Staffordshire Past Track": The village of Waterfall is situated in the Staffordshire Moorlands, north-west of the town of Ashbourne. It is a very typical Moorland village with its buildings built of stone. The place name is a descriptive one and comes from the fact that the River Hamps falls into a subterranean watercourse between the village of Waterfall and Winkhill. HHF from the Peak District and have a great weekend.
