This works, operated by Adbri Cement, formerly known as Adelaide Brighton Cement was founded in 1882. After previous failed attempts going back to 1927, Adelaide Cement Company at Birkenhead and the South Australian Portland Cement Company, with origins at Brighton, merged in 1970 as Adelaide Brighton Cement Ltd. Adbri operates manufacturing and distribution facilities in South Australia, the Northern Territory, and New South Wales. The Birkenhead plant manufactures approximately 1.3 million tonnes per annum of clinker and 1.6 million tonnes per annum of bulk and bagged cement for the South Australian and Victorian markets and is one of South Australia’s biggest manufacturers.

The grain silos at berth 27 of the inner harbour at Port Adelaide can supply wheat and barley to the ship loaders at up to 700 tonnes per hour. Viterra also has a newer deep water terminal in the outer harbour. In the right background is the works of Adelaide Brighton Cement. The ship is the Singapore registered bulk carrier 'Ocean Hiryu'.
The Dry Creek crossing

2200hp 22 class diesel locomotive No.2202, named 'Katherine', reaches the crossing at Dry Creek with a double stack container train. It carried the logo of the Australian Railway Group at that time but is now owned and operated by Aurizon.
Soda ash

Penrice Soda Products was founded by ICI in 1935 at Port Adelaide. The only soda ash production facility in Australia this plant was closed in 2014.

Torrens Island power station

Torrens Island Power Station, near Adelaide, South Australia is operated by AGL Energy. It burns natural gas in 8 steam turbines to generate up to 1,280MW of electricity. The gas is supplied via the SEAGas pipeline from Victoria and from Moomba in the Cooper Basin although it is also is capable of burning fuel oil. It is the largest power station in South Australia and the largest single user of natural gas in Australia. Construction began in 1963 and the A Station was completed in 1967 The B Station was completed in 1976.

Dry Creek diesels

The old order is represented at Dry Creek by a pair of GM12 diesels light engine and the more recent by the Penrice limestone train in the background with 700 class & 830 class motive power. Thanks to Mangrove Rat for navigating us to this interesting spot for a bit of rail action.
