Rotten teeth

The rotting stumps of the Cawley Nursery on the Top Park at Poynton. This parkland plantation of mainly Beech trees has been a significant landscape feature for decades but now the trees are reaching the end of their life. The loss of this landscape feature is keenly felt by those who have grown up with it. A similar fate is befalling the Round Nursery to the west closer to Towers Yard.

Round Nursery

The Round Nursery is a formal plantation of Spanish Chestnut set out to enhance the parkland belonging to Sir George Warren in Poynton during the later 18th century. The trees are now over mature and many have fallen and disappeared during the last 65 years. It is a shame that this distinctive feature will soon disappear.

Top Park, Poynton this morning. One live tree, one dead tree! If you look carefully in the distance you can see the Norbury Colliery pumping enginehouse. This land was the top and most easterly part of Sir George Warren's parkland around Poynton Hall. At one time there were two lodges just to the right of where I was standing.
