Siege Simon was a colliery in the Lorraine coal basin was sunk from 1904 and the first coal was wound in 1907. Sinking shaft two commenced in 1908. It was the last mine in the eastern sector when it was abandoned in December 1997. The site is now a national monument although you wouldn't guess from the state it is in.
