Lady Pit

One of the ambitious projects currently underway at the excellent Anson Museum , is the diorama of Poynton as it was in 1900. This is being undertaken by the local history volunteers who have already put in 1700 hours of work on the model. In this view the centre is occupied by the Lord and Lady Pits with the Newtown Houses to the right and Petre Bank cottages behind. To the right of this is the Quarry Pit and in the left background are the Park Pits.

Goathland crossing

A chat with the driver before leaving Grosmont was followed by a volcanic ascent of the bank to Goathland behind the NER Q6. On arrival I dashed across the footbridge and ran for the road bridge to record the departure. It then became apparent that the train did not have the road and shortly after the LNWR Super 'D' arrived light engine from Pickering. By then the Q6 had stood for so long that it started blowing off at the safety valves as the preparations made by the fireman for the bank ahead were wasted in a cloud of escaping steam.

Inside the shed

Steam locomotive sheds are almost always gloomy places and the shed at Sandaoling is no exception. A moment to reflect as a JS class locomotive awaits attention.
