Westbrecks crossing

Sign overload at the approach to Westbrecks crossing on the railway serving Cottam power station. That's a lot for drivers to absorb whilst avoiding other traffic and road junctions. I am sure they are all deemed necessary but I doubt that the average motorist will register everything. The gated crossing sign is incorrect as there are no gates or barriers on this level crossing.

The Dry Creek crossing

2200hp 22 class diesel locomotive No.2202, named 'Katherine', reaches the crossing at Dry Creek with a double stack container train. It carried the logo of the Australian Railway Group at that time but is now owned and operated by Aurizon.
Dongchang crossing

The level crossing at Dongchang on the Chengzihe section of the Jixi Coal Railway afforded the opportunity to get above the action by climbing the ice-packed stairs of the adjacent apartment block. SY 1544 hurries across with a rake of empty spoil tippers and heads for Beichang washery for another load.

Norbury Crossing

Held up by the crossing on my way home this afternoon, I decided it was time for a view of the crossing cabin as the train passed. The 150 unit seen here is heading for Buxton. The crossing is expected to remain with hand operated gates until at least 2025.
UPM Shotton

Boiler house at the UPM paper mill, Shotton, Deeside which produces about 22% of the UK newsprint requirement. The boilers are partly fuelled with the ink that has been reclaimed from recycled paper that is being put into the production of newsprint. There is currently little/no rail traffic to/from the site.

Prince & Palmerston hammer across Penrhyn Crossing with an empty slate train on the Ffestinog Railway. The crossing is notable for having houses situated on the railway side of the gates.
Another Fuxin crossing
15 Jun 2011 |
The many level crossings at Fuxin cause significant traffic holdups when rail traffic is high. SY 1319 shunts across with coal tippers whilst the locals patiently wait.
Yet another Fuxin crossing
08 Apr 2011 |
The Fuxin mining railway has several crossings in the town where the locals pay little attention as the SY class locomotives go about their daily work.
Norbury Hollow Crossing
05 Nov 2010 |
Situated on a 'rat run' to the A6 the level crossing at Norbury Hollow has little room for vehicles to pass on either side of the almost right angle turns as you drive on and off. This is the former LNWR line from Stockport to Buxton between Hazel Grove and Middlewood. The present crossing cabin replaced a small single storey house a few years ago.

Waiting for the off!
23 Mar 2010 |
The waiting traffic at this level crossing in Fuxin occupies the whole width of the roadway. Of course a similar situation is to be found on the other side of the tracks and things will become interesting once the barriers are slid aside. :-D
Jitong crossing
20 Feb 2010 |
Typical wayside crossing on the Jitong Railway. This example is just east of Lindong and seen with typical traffic for the district.
