Dodging the showers

Whilst out and about in the White Peak of Derbyshire we found this Southern Hawker ( Aeshna cyanea ) dodging the showers at Harboro Rocks near Brassington. On returning an hour or so later he had flown off.

This particularly soggy summer was encapsulated by the state of the Southern Hawker that I found whilst out walking this morning.

It may be nearly November but there are still some dragonflies to be seen as the weather has remained fairly warm and we have avoided frosts so far this autumn. This male Southern Hawker ( Aeshna cyanea ) was busy feeding alongside the Macclesfield Canal at Middlewood.

We don't often get dragonflies in the garden here at Tarboat Towers but this morning we were graced by a female Southern Hawker ( Aeshna cyanea ) feeding along the hedge. The resident Speckled Wood butterflies appeared to be unimpressed.
