London train awaiting departure at Stoke-on-Trent.

During a trip around Britain by train I found myself arriving at Euston Station in London on several occasions. The station was fairly quiet on this Saturday morning on arrival at platform 14 on the Pendelino from Manchester.

A pair of Virgin Pendelinos at the buffer stops in Euston Station. The concrete cavern is unattractive and does not encourage the traveller to linger.

I made a very time consuming rail journey to Burton on Trent yesterday. What I could drive in 1½ hours took 3½ hours and required four separate trains! This 9 coach Pendelino, seen approaching across Stockport viaduct, whisked me off to Stoke from where I endured the thrills of trains filled with football supporters and stuffed with empty bottles, glasses, and general detritus. It was not an edifying sight.

Manchester bound Pendelino and a Voyager on a Bournemouth service pass at Macclesfield Station on a dull and wet Friday afternoon.
