Small England class locomotives Palmerston and Prince amidst the majestic scenery of the Welsh Highland Railway on the long straight after Rydd Dhu station. Prince & Palmerston approaching Rhyd Ddu on the Welsh Highland Railway. The slate tip in the background is part of the Clogwyn y Gwin (Rhos Clogwyn) quarries that were at one time conected to the railway via an incline. The quarry was moribund by the 1920s when the rails were sent for scrap although occasional periods of activity occurred until final closure in 1934.
