From 1972 until March 2012 the 420 MW Lynemouth power station was the main source of electricity for the nearby Alcan Lynemouth Aluminium Smelter. It was privately owned by aluminium company Rio Tinto Alcan throughout its operation until December 2013, when RWE npower took over. In January 2016 it was acquired by Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH). It has now converted to burning biomass which included the building of six of these 194ft high silos.

Silos

I am uncertain as to the function of these silos in the power station sidings at Yuanbaoshan, but suspect that they are for fly ash. The closed hopper wagons alongside and under also suggest that this might be the purpose.

These three silos at Gladstone Dock in Liverpool have a combined capacity of 100,000 tonnes of wood pellets for use at Drax Power Station in Yorkshire. This terminal was completed in July 2016 with wood pellets being offloaded from vessels utilising Continuous Ship Unloaders, before being deposited into the silos via a conveyor belt system. The pellets are then loaded into block trains for transportation to the power station.

Paper Mill

Went to have a peek at a paper mill today. Great place with plenty of scope for photography. Silos and tanks here at the end of the building where the pulp is prepared from recycled paper. These are for the waste material, such as ink, from the preparation flotation process.
