Servicing
Washout day

SY 1748 appears to be undergoing a boiler washout in the depot at Baotou steelworks. Steam here had just a few weeks left in service.
Ogwen

This 2ft gauge 0-4-0T built by the Avonside Engine Company in 1933, sits unrestored in the shed at Beamish. This locomotive was built for the Durham County Water Board on the construction of the Burnhope Reservoir where she was named DURHAM. In 1936 she was sold to the Penrhyn Slate Quarry at Bethesda in North Wales where she was renamed OGWEN. When steam on the quarry railways ended in 1965 this locomotive was sold to an American buyer and remained untouched until repatriated in 2012, still in original condition.
Ogwen was finally restored to full working order in October 2021 and made its debut into traffic at the Moseley Railway Trust’s Apedale Valley Light Railway that same month.
A rusty one

1969 built QJ No.679 looks rather careworn and rusty as it shuffles alongside the semi-roundhouse at Harbin depot. The condition of this locomotive was unusual at this time when most main line locomotives were well maintained and fairly clean. Whilst many of the early build QJs had been withdrawn by 1992 this one seems to have soldiered on for another three years.

I spotted this neat little corrugated iron building in a field at Green Fairfield near Buxton. I have no idea what it was/is used for.
Semi-roundhouse

Electric locomotives in the semi roundhouse at the Anshan steelworks. these were manufactured either at Hennigsdorf in East Germany or the Skoda works in Czechoslovakia. The larger locomotives were used to move trains of iron ore from the opencast mines some distance away. whilst the rest were to be found in the mines and around the steelworks. The electric system encircled the city of Anshan and until 1990 provided a local passenger service.

Locomotive shed on the Dahuichang Limestone Railway in the outskirts of Beijing. The crudely painted numbers on the smokeboxes of C2 class locomotives 1 & 2 can be faintly observed in the gloom. Numbers 3 & 4 were out on the line. This interesting little railway closed in 2005 but two locomotives are reputed to remain in the shed. No.4 is now being restored and regauged on the Ffestiniog Railway.
A message from the natives

Seen from the Forth & Clyde Canal at Camelon, which is a district of Falkirk. The locals were unfailingly friendly whilst I was there.
Corrugated iron in the Dales

A trip to the Yorkshire Dales National Park included this view of a concrete and corrugated iron "Nissen" style barn in the fields above Dent. I doubt it will ever see the roofing sheets replaced as it probably serves little purpose these days other than as a shelter for the sheep.

The former locomotive shed still stands at the Hanson/Heidelberg cement works at Padeswood. Coal is still delivered to the site by rail, but this is shunted using the main line locomotives.
Fishing store

Fishermen's stores are usually merssy places with plenty of kit strewn and stacked around. This example is at Wells-Next-The-Sea where crabs, lobster and scallops seem to be the main things landed.
