This combined heat and power plant has two 42 MW combined cycle gas and steam turbine units. These also produce up to 110 MW of thermal energy to feed the the urban heating network. The 135m high brick chimney was one of the highest masonry chimneys in Germany and was taken down during 2011.

This gasholder at Oberbarmen completely dominates the adjacent streets. The local residents were greatly amused at my taking photographs of it.

No traffic problems for the street railway in the Wuppertal area. The Schwebebahn is the oldest monorail in the world , having opened in sections between 1901 and 1903. The 13km line carries around 75,000 passengers each weekday and is seen here on the approaches to the western terminus at Vohwinkel. Much of the route follows the course of the Wupper river up to Oberbarmen.
