A small work camp for WWII prisoners of war at Biggin in Derbyshire. I believe that this site has now been demolished.

Living huts at the Snape Farm prisoner of war camp at Weston, near Crewe. These have corrugated asbestos cement sheet for roofing rather than the corrugated iron used elsewhere in the camp. This satellite camp for Crewe Hall housed Italian prisoners in the later years of the war.

The prisoner of war camp at St Martin's is a standard type of German working camp. With most of the buildings still in situ the site is now an industrial estate.

This tiny Nissen hut stands in a quiet corner of the Cultbraggan camp.
The prisoner of war camp at Cultybraggan was completed in late 1941 and originally used to house Italian prisoners. It was later used as a transit camp for Germans and as a high security establishment for holding ardent nazis. Later it became a MOD training centre until closure in 2004. It is now owned by the local community through the Comrie Development Trust. The camp still contains a large number of nissen huts.

Wartime grafitti

Today I visited the remains of the Snape Farm POW camp at Weston. A surprising amount remains here and I was delighted to find that this drawing was still visible in one of the huts. It is a pity that the lower part of the face has disappeared under the later cement render. I wonder whether this was the wife/sweetheart of one of the prisoners, or perhaps it was just an idealised character?
What is rather odd about this location is that it is not shown on most of the lists of UK Prisoner of War camps. I can find very little information about it other than a suggestion that it was used at different times to house both German and Italian prisoners.
