Dome on the top of the public library in Eccles. This grade II listed building was completed in 1907 to the design of Councillor Edward Potts, partner in Potts, Son and Hennings, after he secured funding of £7,500 from Andrew Carnegie. At the opening Potts expressed the hope that the building would become "the Eccles University" in harmony with Carlyle's dictum of 1841 that "the true university of these days is a collection of books."

Darwen Library and Theatre, Knott Street, Darwen. This is a Carnegie Library and was designed by architect Raymond Harrison. It opened in 1908 and is listed Grade II.

The central library building at Chorley, Lancashire, was built in 1905 and is a splendid of terracotta decoration. The materials seem to have been manufactured by The Withnell Brick and Terra Cotta Company Ltd of Abbey Village.

A rather special wrought iron sign is on the side of the former Victoria Jubilee Institute and public baths in Tunstall, building of which was started in 1889. The uses of the building included the Free Library and this was marked by the sign provided by local worthy and brick & tile manufacturer John Nash Peake in 1901. Sadly the building is now entirely derelict and up for sale at a knock-down price. Renovation of the Grade II listed structure would cost millions.

The Central Public Library on Garrick Street was completed in1900-1902 to the designs of H.T.Hare. The Grade II listed building is a mixture of styles with Art Nouveau vying with the Classical. This particular detail is very definitely from the Art Nouveau side.

The Central Public Library on Garrick Street was completed in 1900-1902 to the designs of H.T.Hare. It was erected to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee but she was dead before it was completed. Funds were raised by the Mayor, Alderman S Craddock, and by a grant of £1,000 from Andrew Carnegie. The design was chosen in 1898, through limited competition confined to twelve selected architects. Hare’s original plan has two rectangular spaces for the principal rooms and a triangular space between them for circulation, administration and offices. He conformed to the brief in every detail save one - his plan, when assessed for cost, was considerably more expensive than had been stipulated. Nevertheless, the design was so good, that additional funds were raised. The Grade II listed building is a mixture of styles with Art Nouveau vying with the Classical. This upper section to the left of the main entrance shows off the buff terracotta decoration and some of the Art Nouveau features.

Built in 1906, the Carnegie Free Library in Shaw no longer dispenses books to an eager populace. Until recently it was in a derelict state, ut has now been converted to apartments.

Erected by public subscription in 1888 to commemorate Queen Victoria's jubilee, the Winsford Free Library building is now offices.
