Since the closure of the Brymbo steelworks the remaining structures have been suffering from age and weather. Here the foundry roof shows signs of imminent collapse. In the background is the original blast furnace which was later used as a sand hopper for the foundry.
Since this photograph was taken the foundry roof has been removed.

An excellent open day at the Brymbo steelworks site showed the extensive remains there. This early blast furnace survived due to being retained as a foundry sand hopper after it was blown out.

Thought to have been erected c1794 by John Wilkinson this building housed a beam pumping engine to drain the workings of his Brymbo Colliery. By mid nineteenth century it had been converted to a dwellinghouse and remained so until abandoned in the 1950s. Recently subject to considerable conservation work, it is the oldest standing full height enginehouse in Wales.
