Blackwoodridge Limekiln

Blackwoodridge limeworks were well established by 1858 and there were extensive quarries and three further kilns at that time. By 1899 all had closed although the site has subsequently been used in processing ground limestone. This single kiln has a large pot and two draw tunnels at the front.

The Blackwoodridge quarries were already extensive by 1858 when there were four limekilns on the site. one bank of three kilns still stand behind this corrugated structure that dates from the 1960s when ground limestone was processed here. The fourth kiln has also survived down amongst the trees in the background.

Lonsdale Cinema, Annan

The Lonsdale has been a cinema since early in the 20th century. It is now split with bingo in the rear stalls, and two small cinemas - seating 107 and 57 - in the original front stalls; accessed via the rear of the original building.

Park Limekilns - Closeburn

The three Closeburn kilns date from the late 18th century. Built against a natural bank above the flooded quarry, they are constructed of red sandstone. The stone was raised to the kiln tops by an inclined wagon-way. Production continued until c1888 with sporadic working until c1895.
