04 Jan 2022 1 2 165
Ex Thomas Clayton tanker Spey takes the turn under the old railway bridge between locks 11 and 12 at Bosley on the Macclesfield Canal. The boat was built in 1937 at Uxbridge and spent its career moving gas oil from Ellesmere Port to Oldbury and also gasworks byeproducts around the West Midlands. It has been in preservation since the 1960s.

No boats

Good Friday at Bosley Locks and not a boat to be seen in the ice. This must be the first Easter that I haven't seen a boat on the move at the locks, but then the canal isn't usually frozen at Easter.

The sun was shining and I was passing through Bosley so it would have been a pity to miss out on a few shots of this place. On the site of a former brassworks at Bosley near Macclesfield is the works of Wood Treatment International Ltd. The company processes a range of organic materials such as SoftWood Fibres, Olive Stones, Almond, Walnut and Coconut Shells for use in a wide variety of industries including explosives, thermoplastics, glucose production and effluent handling. A major product is natural pet litter. With all the different powders around the factory is rated is a major explosion risk by the authorities.

The smoke hangs low below Bosley Cloud as sunset approaches at the end of a fine February day. Bosley reservoir glistens in the failing light. The far hill is Mow Cop.
