Chelford Arms Depot

07 Nov 2016 765
Originally planned as a filling factory (ROF Macclesfield - Factory No.13), the site was requisitioned before 1941 and was open as an ammunition store by 1942. The fourteen standard sheds continued in use until 1964. The surviving buildings are now in agricultural and light industrial use.

Chelford loops

More sunshine for the Scarborough Flyer this morning - twice in one year is almost unheard of for this train. 46233 is seen here going well at Chelford loops.

Too much steam

08 Sep 2011 222
6201 Princess Elizabeth was a little early when it arrived with the Scarborough Flyer at the Chelford loop where an Arriva Wales train was to pass. Clearly the boiler was full and the fire hot, for the safety valves lifted as soon as the train stopped.

Overtaking

70013 Oliver Cromwell was motive power for today's Scarborough Flyer. It is seen with the train in the loop at Chelford whilst the Arriva service to Manchester overtakes. 1000 ASA this morning due to the gloom. :-(

It nearly went wrong today

10 Sep 2010 239
The original intention this morning was for Eagle142 and me to head for Holmes Chapel to photograph the final Scarborough Flyer of the year. However the weather was dark and dull and we decided that Chelford might be a better bet as this would give the sun almost another half hour to rise behind the clouds and maybe give a bit more light for a shot. This proved to be a wise decision as the clouds began to break up a little and the light did improve quite a bit. What was nearly our undoing was the late arrival of the local stopping service to Crewe just as the steam service started to leave the Chelford loop. In the end the stopper made a rapid departure and cleared the bridge just before 6233 came through.

Watching the road ahead

Steam and electric

Another morning jaunt with Eagle 142 to see Princess Elizabeth with the Scarborough Flyer. The train is seen here just starting from the loop at Chelford as the local stopping service to Crewe heads away. It was dull, it was wet.

Getting away from Chelford
