The Churnet Valley railway runs through a deep valley between Consall and Froghall and the thick woodland makes photography very challenging on this section. Today I decided to try to find some new vantage points and climbed into the woods above Consall in search of a view of the track. In the end all I managed was a very brief glimpse of the S160 amongst the woods, but then that's what this line is all about.

No apologies for featuring another shot of Consall Station. This is a favourite spot and the DMU service today gave an opportunity to create a 1950s atmosphere. The sunshine was short-lived but very welcome.

The Churnet Valley Railway took a brave decision to run trains on the wednesday after the May Day Bank Holiday and was rewarded with warm sunshine all day, but sadly not too many passengers. This lack of people did allow for uncluttered photography and seen here is USA 5197 blowing off hard at the safety valves as it arrives at Consall with an early afternoon train.

On a day of rain and gloom I was delighted when the sun showed for just five seconds as LNER V2 class 'Green Arrow' headed for Leekbrook Tunnel shortly after leaving Cheddleton during the Churnet Valley Railway steam gala.
