We went to see Richard Thompson perform at Gawsworth Hall last night. Phone camera shot, but it captures a bit of the atmosphere during the first of the four song encore.

Oakgrove

Oakgrove wharf and swing bridge soon after 1900. In those days the pub was here called the Royal Oak. On the wharf are large piles of gravel waiting loading onto boats for delivery along the Macclesfield Canal. The stone came from the Hawkshead Quarries in Sutton which were at that time operated by Ashton and Holmes. In 1912 they were selling Brown Macadam at 3s.9d ton and Blue Gravel at 4s.6d ton.

Sutton 1849

Boundary stone between Sutton and Gawsworth parishes hiding behind the towpath boundary hedge on the Macclesfield Canal. This suddenly caught my eye whilst walking this morning and was a complete surprise as it is not marked on any maps that I have seen. There is a similar stone on the other side of the canal a bit further north behind Gaw End Farm.

The latest design in illuminated signposts was spotted in Gawsworth this morning.

The Office

Spotted whilst out with Eagle142 today, this was just too good to miss. Office building in a former haulage yard at Whitemoor Hollow, below Gawsworth Common.

Harrington Arms June 2006

A view of the Harrington Arms when it was still in 'grumpy' mode before the present tenants arrived and tidied the place up. As a lover of Robbies' Mild I am in heaven whilst sitting at the Friday night traditional music session.
