Ridgegate
23 Feb 2012 |

I took a walk up from Langley up Tegg's Nose this morning and was presented with this view across Ridgegate Reservoir to a misty Macclesfield Forest. It's a great place to live and I do so enjoy being able to walk in such grand countryside.
Butterton

I took a trip over to the Staffordshire Moorlands this afternoon in search of limekilns. My journey led me to Butterton, a delightful village set amongst rolling hills. This is looking over the village from the aptly named Lime Kiln Road.

Towards the top end of Langdale on a day when the weatherman said heavy rain! The nearer hill is Side Pike and to the right the land rises to Kettle Crag and Wrynose Fell. Best viewed large .
Macclesfield Canal and Goyt Mill
01 Jan 2010 |
|
I always take a country walk on New Year's Day and this year it was along the Macclesfield Canal from Marple before crossing the ridge and returning along the Peak Forest Canal. After a hard frost the canal was frozen and it snowed for the first part of the walk, just enough to lift the lighting without making everything just white.
This view is looking back to Hawk Green from Windlehurst and features the Goyt Mill in the background along with frozen-in boats on the canal, and even red deer in the field below. A perfect day for a walk.

Heading home from a day walking in the Peak National Park my eye was caught by the evening sun on Shutlingsloe, seen here from Allgreave.
Ladmanlow

The embankment once carried the Cromford and High Peak Railway on its way over the moors to Whaley Bridge via several rope worked inclines. Abandoned in 1892 from this point to the west, the stub was retained, initially to serve the Goyt Colliery siding, the trackbed of which can be seen running behind the signpost. When the colliery closed services were cut back to Ladmanlow Yard on the other side of the main road that runs just above the siding at this point.

Cuckoo Rocks

I went walking on what must have been one of the windiest days ever, even for the hills above Macclesfield. Nearly blown off my feet several times during the but it was great to be out in the wide ope spaces of the Peak fringe. This lonely tree caught my eye in this view from near Broughsplace, looking towardsCuckoo Rocks.
Almost in the clouds

Looking to Bosley Minn from the summit of Shutlingsloe on a day when the clouds were almost touching my head.
Kinder from Whaley Moor

Went walking around the Derbyshire/Cheshire border today amidst snow and hail. Stood on Whaley Moor marvelling at the rapidly changing light conditions and then suddenly Kinder was lit up amidst the black skies.
Sponds Hill and Bowstones Farm from Whaley Moor

Out and about with Eagle1942 today, we headed onto the moors. Turning around on Whaley Moor after looking at Kinder , the other side of the ridge revealed a view of the ridge from snow covered Sponds Hill across to Bowstones Farm.

We took a walk into the Derbyshire Dales this afternoon in glorious sunshine. On the higher ground above Elton stands this lonely barn with an accompaniment of crows.
Shutlingsloe from near Gun End
24 Nov 2008 |
|
Today it was chilly but bright and I went walking with my sister around the Staffordshire moorlands near the Roaches. Towards the end of the walk the sun on Shutlingsloe caught my eye. If you look closely on the large image you can see two people on top next to the trig point.
