The Uniper owned Connah's Quay power station is is seen along the tidal Dee behind the approach spans to the fairly new road bridge. This Combined Cycle Gas Turbine power station has a capacity of 1420MW. It is made up of four 330 MW modules - hence the four chimneys. Each module has a General Electric Frame 9FA gas turbine, a Stein Industrie heat recovery steam generator and a steam turbine; in a single-shaft layout. The gas comes via an eighteen-mile pipeline from the Point of Ayr gas terminal, where gas is received from Eni's Celtic gas fields (Hamilton and Hamilton North) in Liverpool Bay via the Douglas Complex.

From 1972 until March 2012 the 420 MW Lynemouth power station was the main source of electricity for the nearby Alcan Lynemouth Aluminium Smelter. It was privately owned by aluminium company Rio Tinto Alcan throughout its operation until December 2013, when RWE npower took over. In January 2016 it was acquired by Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH). It has now converted to burning biomass.

Kraftwerk Datteln 4

1,100 Mw power station (unit 4) under construction for E.ON at Datteln on the banks of the Wesel-Datteln Canal. The existing power stations 1-3 at Datteln are considered to be reaching the end of their economic life and this station is intended to replace them. In addition to supplying 20% of the electricity used by the German Railways, the existing plant also provides heating for 50% of the housing in Datteln. The new unit is planned to burn 360 tonnes of hard coal per hour and to operate at 45% efficiency. This will make it one of the most efficient power plants in the world. After delays due to arguments over planning and environmental issues the plant is now advertised as being intended to open in 2012
