Sitting drinking beer outside a bar by this busy road junction is punctuated by occasionally having to get up and photograph the trains on the Harz system as they cross. In this case a Brocken bound service is heading away from Wernigerode Westerntor station. No barriers required, just lights over the road and common sense from the car drivers.

It was only a short stroll across the road from our hotel to the depot at Wernigerode and it would have been a great waste not to record the night time scenes whilst the lights were still on.

The Harzquerbahn has provided a viewing platform adjacent to the depot at Wernigerode. For photography it is rather too close to the subject and makes for some significant distortion due to use of wide angles to capture the action. Nothing daunted, it does give a different view after perspective correction is applied.
