Robey & Co Ltd, Canwick Road, Lincoln. The business was renowned for its production of steam road vehicles and stationary engines as well as general engineering. The company was purchased by Babcock International in 1984. In the firm's last years before final closure in February 1988, production was mainly of boilers in oil, gas or solid fuel fired versions which were made in large numbers. This entrance with globe and engineering tools above is thought to date from about 1910.

One of two stone beasts guarding the frontage of S Hugh's Chambers on Corporation Street in Lincoln. The building dates from 1899 and the limestone has suffered somewhat from the weather and bird droppings. I do love this sort of architectural detail which is sadly lacking on most modern buildings.

Just in case we didn't know what it was for. A nice detail seen on High Street, Lincoln.

Stone decoration above the door on S. Hugh's Chambers on Corporation Street in Lincoln. The netting seems to be losing the battle with the pigeons judging by the mess on the walls.

Gable on the Fatface shop in High Street, Lincoln. This high quality terracotta ornamentation is high up and probably unnoticed by most people passing by. Designed in 1899 by William Watkins (1835-1926), architect, of Lincoln, it was built by William Wright for Hewitt Brown & Co in 1900; thus the intertwined H and B. The terracotta faience was made by the Hathern Station Brick Co. of Loughborough.

The former main post office building in Lincoln dates from 1905 and is faced in a cream terracotta that has not aged well. However, these impressive shield-bearing beasts continue to guard the doorways to the building. It is now a pub imaginatively? called The Mailbox.

This panel is on the facia of the Marks & Spencer shop in Lincoln. I don't recall having seen anything like this on their shops before.
