Taking a drink

'Black 5' 44871 takes water at the Rawtenstall tower. Shortly afterwards whilst attempting to close the valve the chain fell off and landed on the fireman. This resulted in all the water draining out as there was no means of stopping it.

Sunday lunch

We went for a Sunday Lunch trip on the East Lancashire Railway and very good it was. The Hughes Crab that was hauling the train was handled gently so as not to spill our drinks! Before setting off the train catering staff grabbed their own lunch before a busy time serving two coaches of diners and then afternoon teas on a later run.

The last train of the New Year's Day service awaits the uncoupling of Black 5 45407 after arrival at Bury Bolton Street on the East Lancashire Railway. If you look really close a short distance to the left of the moon you can just see Venus.

The Crab after arrival at Rawtenstall on a wet new Year's evening. The ability of modern DSLR cameras to capture scenes such as this has transformed photography and allows you to continue shooting after dark.

The maroon Crab arrives at Bury on a dark and dank New Year's Day. It was a good day out and included mince pies and whisky on the train.

Buckley Wells

A peek into the section of the works at Buckley Wells that is operated by Ian Riley. Taken during the East Lancs Railway night photoshoot in February 2009. Fellow Flickrite The View From The North was told off for making a similar view , but I managed to escape the attention of the authorities!
