Brightlingsea

This is one of four(!) of these fine ridge dragons that adorn a former pub/hotel adjacent to the harbour at Brightlingsea. The building is now apartments and hopefully these fine specimens will survive for many years to come

Not really a dragon

Another ridge beast spotted in Green Lane, Buxton. This is definitely not a dragon, rather some other mythical beast sitting on the roof. Clearly a fairly modern replica as the detailing is nowhere near as good as on the examples from the early 20th century.

Ridge Dragon

This example is probably a wyvern rather than a dragon and is lurking on a rooftop in Macclesfield. This looks to be a fairly recent example rather than one of the Victorian examples which are generally of better quality detail.

Yet another dragon

I am always on the lookout for terracotta figures and beasts on buildings and was delighted when a friend mentioned that he had seen this one in Buxton. It's a bit the worse for wear, with part of a wing and lower jaw missing, and also rather green with lichen. However it's still very handsome and a fine adornment for the house. I wonder where it was made?

Another dragon

Terracotta dragons are very scarce but today I found two on a building in Heathcoat St, Nottingham. Quite different from this one , the Nottingham dragon cheekily curls his tail through one of the holes in the vertical section of the tile and also requires a prop for his neck! A lovely piece as is the one on an adjacent gable.
