South Humber Bank Power Station is a 1,265 MW gas-fired power station at Stallingborough. Phase 1, completed in 1997, consists of three 166 MW gas turbines with three heat recovery steam generators. It was designed and built by a consortium of Cockerill Maintenance & Ingénierie (CMI) and International Combustion, and 255 MW steam turbine. Phase 2 was completed in 1999 and consists of two 169 MW gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators and a 171 MW steam turbine. It is similar to two CCGTs next-door to each other. The station is owned by EP UK Investments Ltd., which is daughter company of EP Power Europe, which is 100% owned by Czech energy group EPH (owned by Daniel Křetínský). EPH bought South Humber Bank power station from Centrica in June 2017.

Cooling

I went for a last look at the Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station before it closes at the end of the month and was largely confounded by the weather. Over two days it was so murky and foggy that it proved almost impossible to see the power station unless very close. I ended up with a few shots of the cooling towers taken from the roadway outside the East Midlands Parkway railway station.

Ironbridge B

Another image of a doomed power station. Due to close in 2015 is Ironbridge B power station which was commenced in 1963 and full 1000 MW capacity reached with the commissioning of the second 500 MW unit in February 1970. The cooling towers were deliberately constructed using concrete to which a red pigment had been added, to blend with the colour of the local soil. This added £11,000 to the construction costs.

The Fenne power station at Völklingen provides both electricity and district heating using coal, and also 42mw of coal mine gas powered generation. This view from the top of the Cowper Stoves at the Völklingen blast furnaces.

The Lough Ree Power Station at Lanesborough on the Shannon was commissioned in late 2004 at a cost in excess of €200 million. This peat fired plant has a generating capacity of 100mw and is expected to burn 800,000 tonnes per annum over a fiteen year lifespan.

Owned by Teesside Power and producing 1,875MW, this is the largest CHP station in England. It was opened in 1993.

Leigh Spinners' chimney

The Park Lane mills of Leigh Spinners are still working in the carpet trade although redundancies were being implemented on the day I visited. The chimney is very impressive, situated between the original 1913 mill and the 1923 addition on the western side. A stitch of five images. Best viewed very large

Another view of Fiddler's Ferry

I was heading home tonight from Buxton as the sun was setting and there was that old power station sticking up on the far horizon. I only had my small camera with me and it decided that focussing was optional in that light so it was over to manual and hope that it came out ok.
