A trip to Southpost in the pouring rain where I soon discovered that the architectural merits of the town are minimal. A beacon amongst the drab and uninteresting was the Viceroy Building on the corner of Eastbank Street and Wesley Street. This is missing from the listed structures list which seems to comprise the usual array of churches and former banking buildings rather than something genuinely interesting and innovative such as this. In addition to the marvellous turret there is a fine selection of stone balls, lions and an eagle decorating the structure. This was definitely the highlight and I headed for the station soon after.

There are some things that are a must-see in our household, and the British Lawnmower Museum in Southport is one of these. The building is stuffed with every conceivable make and model of mower and there is a well informed commentary to accompany your visit. 5 Stars every time!
