Beyer Garratt NG143 takes water at Caernarfon before heading the last train of the day back to Porthmadog. These ex South African locomotives seem to be ideal for this line and easily handle the trains.

The slate tip in the background is part of the Clogwyn y Gwin (Rhos Clogwyn) quarries that were at one time conected to the railway via an incline. The quarry was moribund by the 1920s when the rails were sent for scrap although occasional periods of activity occurred until final closure in 1934.
