55 022 Royal Scots Grey crosses the Weaver Viaduct at Hunt's Lock, Northwich on the already very late running Ribble Lune Railtour . The train had just reversed at Lostock having traversed the branch between Sandbach and Northwich.

Barge Panary at the North West Farmers wharf on the River Weaver just below Frodsham Bridge. This barge, owned by Viaduct Shipping, was built in 1937 and trades between Seaforth Grain Terminal and Frodsham.

Winnington Works by night

The lights of the Brunner Mond soda ash plant at Winnington reflect on the sluggish River Weaver. The massive structure housing the nine patent shaft limekilns is prominent in the centre.

The Blue Bridge

Known to all locals as 'the Blue Bridge", the Hartford bridge on the Northwich Bypass over the River Weaver is, in fact, two spans built side-by-side. The nearer one was erected in 1939 to replace a stone arch bridge, but the further span was delayed due to the outbreak of the war and was finally finished in the early 1950's I think.

Day's end with the Winnington and Wallerscote sites of the Brunner Mond soda ash works to the left of the river and Anderton concrete factory to the right.

Frodsham Wharf

It is always worth a look over the parapet at Frodsham Bridge as there is a god chance of seeing the barge Panary lying at Frodsham Wharf loaded with grain. This is the last commercial traffic on the Weaver.

Winnington from the river

The river Weaver is surprisingly rural as it meets the Witton Brook close to the Winnington soda ash Works. A view from the Anderton boat lift trip boat.

Vale Royal top sluice

27 Jun 2007 251
Whilst the rain in Cheshire has been somewhat less than in Yorkshire there is still a lot of water trying to escape to the sea. On 25th June alone 1.45 inches of rain fell. On the Weaver the top sluice feeding into the old river at Vale Royal was lifted to its maximum height in order to take water away from Winsford. I have before never seen it raised so high and the flow below was spectacular.
