Heritage Open Days saw Christ Church in Macclesfield open to view so I took the opportunity to photograph the interior of the redundant building. Whilst in the gallery I was taken by this view down onto Waterloo Street West and the roofs of Roe Street.

Whilst the wealthy toffs occupied their paid-for lockable box pews downstairs at Christ Church, the great unwashed were banished to the free seating upstairs. This large town church was built in 1775-76 at the expense of Charles Roe, founder of Macclesfield’s silk industry.
