The spectacular white terracotta tower of Co-operative House is a significant landmark on Liverpool Road in Stoke-on-Trent. The building was once a Co-operative department store.

Thomas Williams, Basford & Trent Vale Tileries, St…

In the course of a most satisfactory mooch around Hanley with Capitol 203 we happened upon this brick on a site adjacent to Sun Street. Unfortunately it was firmly fixed to its compatriots and in too delicate a state to chip out, so there it stays. Thomas Williams was operating his brickworks at Etruria by the 1860s and was still in business in 1904. The works does not appear in the 1912 Kelly's directory.

Fenton Park

One of the few structures remaining from Fenton Park collieries is this chimney base. To the left are the shaft remains of the Victoria Colliery. In the background can be seen the housing in Ubberley and Bentilee. This area has some of the best nineteenth century mining remains to be found in North Staffordshire.
