Shutlingsloe from Cats Tor

25 Nov 2008 270
Today was bright and cold with a skittering of snow on the hills where the ground was frozen quite hard - a great day for walking. Eagle1942 accompanied me on a circular walk from Pym Chair through the valley of the Todd Brook past Thursbitch, and then up to Shining Tor, highest point in Cheshire. Lunch was taken at the Cat and Fiddle before returning along the ridge from Shining Tor past Oldgate Nick. The lowering afternoon sunlight bathed the countryside for miles around in a golden glow, and this shot was taken looking back southwards to Shutlingsloe and Macclesfield Forest. It was so peaceful up there on the moors with just the chackle of the grouse to be heard.

Parkhouse and Chrome Hills

A reminder of the late winter when the weather was better than it has been in summer 2007. Two of my favourite hills in the White Peak.

Parkhouse Hill

The reef geology of the Longnor/Earl Sterndale district of the Peak National Park makes for some great hills to scale. My Sunday walk took me up Parkhouse Hill in the background and then up Chrome Hill which was behind be when I took this photo. A good walk and wasn't it windy!

Chrome Hill

Another view from my walk amongst the limestone hills. This time taken from the windswept summit of Parkhouse Hill looking towards Chrome Hill. The Dark Peak is just evident in the background and the tiny purple object on the right side of the image is a lonely tent.
