Birch colours

07 Nov 2020 3 155
This year the colours in the autumn leaves have been spectacular and far better than I can previously remember in the UK. This birch tree in Poynton has been on my list for a photo if the weather was right and on this day the light was perfect

Top Park

Top Park, Poynton this morning. One live tree, one dead tree! If you look carefully in the distance you can see the Norbury Colliery pumping enginehouse. This land was the top and most easterly part of Sir George Warren's parkland around Poynton Hall. At one time there were two lodges just to the right of where I was standing.

Chimney and tree

A lone tree and a lone chimney above the Dane Valley at Danebower. The collliery chimney served the boiler for a steam engine that drove an underground haulage system via a shaft. The chimney has recently seen extensive repair work to stabilise its condition.

Cuckoo Rocks

I went walking on what must have been one of the windiest days ever, even for the hills above Macclesfield. Nearly blown off my feet several times during the but it was great to be out in the wide ope spaces of the Peak fringe. This lonely tree caught my eye in this view from near Broughsplace, looking towardsCuckoo Rocks.

Dead tree near Throstle's Nest

13 Nov 2008 275
Ok, so I had a play with this one in Photoshop. I went on search of 18th century colliery remains yesterday afternoon and whilst stood in a field in Adlington this tree was crying out to be photographed. When I got the thing on screen the image looked dull and uninteresting so it became a candidate for some serious tinkering. It may not be as 'in real life' but I quite like the result as it is close to what I had in mind when I first saw the tree.
