Old Co-op

30 Mar 2014 441
Former premises of the New Swindon Co-operative Society in Fleet Street, Swindon. The cream terracotta was a popular choice at one time for the fascia of Co-operative shops across the country.

An unexpected find

23 Jun 2011 196
Malmesbury is situated on the edge of the Cotswolds and is almost entirely built of local stone. This makes the Old Library, 44 High St, stand out as something completely incongruous. The brick frontage with terracotta decoration is dated 1901. It seems very strange to introduce such alien materials on the High Street of such a picturesque town.

The Old Library

Malmesbury is situated on the edge of the Cotswolds and is almost entirely built of local stone. This makes the Old Library on High St stand out as something completely incongruous. The brick facade with terracotta decoration is dated 1901. It seems very strange to introduce such alien materials on the High Street of such a picturesque town. I do,however, much prefer it to the corporate awfulness of the W H Smith frontage.

Concrete for water

16 Jul 2011 224
This water tower in the Parish of Charlton, east of Malmesbury is surprisingly unpolluted by aerials and dishes.

Derelict

24 Feb 2010 288
No longer loved and now shedding roofing sheets is this Wiltshire barn. The plate on the end reads 'F. H. Dale builder Leominster'.

Rusty

28 Apr 2008 234
Seen on a walk in Wiltshire. I think that this one is no longer wanted.

Braithwaite tank

28 Apr 2008 842
The Braithwaite water tank is still in production but this older example has ended its useful life. Another find on a Wiltshire country walk.
