Shangdian

At the summit of the Jinpeng section of the Jitong Railway, the loops at Shangdian always made me think of Blea Moor. Of course Blea Moor is slightly wetter than Shangdian! One of the visual bonuses on some sections of this newly built railway were the semaphore signals such as these at the east end of the station as QJs 7041 and 7009 head for the summit tunnel a short distance away.

Tracks to Fiddler's Ferry

The former LNWR line threads its way from Arpley towards Ditton Junction through the former Crosfields soapworks and is seen here just after Littons Mill Crossing. The line is now used almost entirely by trains carrying coal to Fiddler's Ferry power station.
