A Black Crappie, Pomoxis nigromaculatus, a member of the Sunfish Family. This family also includes the Bluegill and Largemouth and Smallmouth Black Bass. This specimen, approximately 9 inches long, was caught on a yellow Rebel Crickhopper floating lure, twitched on the surface. Caught in Lake Loree at the Sunny Hill Resort in Greenville, Greene County, New York, summer, 2020. This is a popular Catskill Mountain resort. Crappie are handsome and hard fighting fish. It was returned to the lake immediately.

A Green Sunfish, Lepomis cyanellus, caught in a pond at the Sunny Hill Resort and Golf Course in Greenville, Greenville County, New York. This special place is in the majestic Catskill Mountains. Interestingly, although I have been fishing in New York State for most of my 70 years, I have never encountered or caught this beautiful non-native species before. It is originally from Asia.

Too Hungry for His Own Good!

A nice Largemouth Bass of about 14 inches I caught in a small pond at the Sunny Hill Resort and Golf Course. This great family resort is in the northern range of the Catskill Mountains in Greenville, Greene County, New York. I've been vacationing there since I was one year old, but back then my dad did the driving! The resort's main fishing and boating lake is 11 acre Lake Loree, which also supports Yellow Perch, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed Sunfish, Black Crappie and Catfish. I can't wait to return there in May and June this year! The small lure in the photo is a yellow Rebel "Crickhopper." The fish was released right after this photo was taken.
