Bridge House, Ambleside.

17 Jul 2013 16 10 1400
Bridge House is possibly the most photographed building in the Lake District National Park and a popular subject for many artists, including Turner. A tiny building, originally an apple store for nearby Ambleside Hall, it was built over Stock Beck to escape Land Tax. At one time a family with six children lived here in the two rooms !! Bridge House was built more than 300 years ago. The building was purchased by local people in 1926 and given to the National Trust. It is now used as an information centre for the National Trust and is part of the Trust's Windermere and Troutbeck property.
