Photographed in "Hard Platts" woods (which is about 500 metres from my home) on a rainy day. The rain usually helps to "saturate" colours in photographs and to bring out the different shades when a single colour dominates the image. There's also a very small HFF "contender" in the centre which can be better seen when "viewed on black".

Photographed near the town of Burnley in Lancashire, North-West England. After walking up to Crown Point and the "Singing Ringing Tree" (see my "Sony RX100" album) we decided to take a short-cut back to the town. My GPS showed this route (correctly) as a public footpath but gave no indication of how hazardous it was. There are lots of hidden rocks, holes in the ground covered by long grass and sudden steep drops down to the river which are not visible until you get to the edge of them. The so-called "footpath" itself is invisible beneath the grass and vegetation. This sign is located about half-way along the route.....I think it would have been much better if it was located at the start as a warning !!

Photographed in late March 2015 on the day of the Solar eclipse whilst waiting for the clouds to clear (the eclipse had just started). The location is Raven's Clough wood near Brierfield in the North-West of England, an ideal place to watch the eclipse as it is situated on a hillside with great views to the East and South. The clouds eventually cleared enough to get some images of the eclipse which are currently located further down this page.

Wild flowers photographed in Raven's Clough Wood near Brierfield in North-West England. I'm not certain what these are....they appear to be members of the Orchidaceae family (Orchids), most probably one of the "Marsh Orchids" (Dactylorhiza) which can be very variable in appearance and difficult to identify with certainty. These were growing in open deciduous woodland in a high and exposed location.

Bridges at Wycoller.

The Clapper bridge (foreground) and the Packhorse bridge (background) in the small hamlet of Wycoller, Pendle, UK. The Clapper bridge is believed by some historians to date from the medieval period although others believe it to be of 19th Century origin. The Packhorse bridge dates from the 13th Century according to the nearby museum. The footpath over this bridge has been eroded by centuries of use (mainly clog-wearing hand-loom weavers in pre-industrial times) and both arches are leaning slightly sideways.

Wild flowers (which I think are Ragwort or Golden Ragwort), photographed near Barrowford in Pendle district, England. The camera used was a Sony RX100 compact and the processing was done with Nikon Capture NX2.
