One of the ponds along the Nature Trail near Ball Grove park in Colne, North-West England. In Spring this area is full of young frogs and Dragonflies (both of which breed here) and various breeds of birds. The Bull-rushes provide a hidden nesting site for ducks, some of which can be seen emerging from them in this scene. If you look at the "Satellite view" the whole pond appears to be coloured Brown....this is caused by the rushes which often cover the whole area. The wooden structure is part of a viewing platform which extends into the middle of the pond. Camera: Sony RX100. Processed with Nikon Capture NX2.

The locks on the Leeds-Liverpool canal at Barrowford in Pendle district, North-West England, photographed with a Nikon D300s camera and my new 17-55mm wide-angle lens. I forgot to set the aperture correctly for a greater depth-of-field (I had it set at f2.8 instead of a smaller value) but the background is still reasonably in-focus. The angle of view is equivalent to approx. 25mm on a full-frame camera.

The packhorse bridge in the Pendle village of Wycoller. This bridge is one of three ancient bridges in Wycoller and a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The footpath over this bridge has been eroded by centuries of use (mainly by clog-wearing hand-loom weavers in pre-industrial times) and is deeply grooved. Both arches are leaning slightly sideways as the result of many years of heavy use.

Colne Water is a small river near the town of Colne in North-West England. It is formed at Covey Bridge by the confluence of the River Laneshaw and Wycoller Beck. From there the river runs in a westerly direction via Cottontree to join Pendle Water at Lowerford. The Brown colouration of the water is caused by peat particles from the hills and moors which surround the area. A Springtime view looking West across Lake Burwain (which is actually a reservoir) near the village of Foulridge in Pendle, Lancashire, UK. In summer this lake is usually full of boats and it's also a popular location for anglers and walkers. Camera Nikon D90. Processing Nikon Capture NX2.

A Mute Swan (Cygnus Olor) photographed during rainy weather on the Leeds-Liverpool canal at Brierfield in Pendle district, England. The camera used was a Sony RX100 compact and the processing was done with Nikon Capture NX2.

One of the Ferry fleet, "Glad Tidings", which runs between the coastal town of Seahouses and the nearby Farne Islands. The islands are home to many species of birds and thousands of Grey Seals (and they are the former home of at least 3 Saints). The Islands are also famous for their association with Grace Darling (see 1st link below) who, with her lighthouse-keeper father William, saved the lives of 9 people in 1838 when the ship "Forfarshire" went aground and split apart on nearby rocks during a violent storm. The newly-planted (at the time) Lily pond on the Heslington campus of York University, England, UK. The buildings surrounding this area are some of the Halls of Residence (the most sought-after ones because of the great views). Camera: Olympus Camedia C-1 (low resolution).

Seen on the Leeds-Liverpool canal near Colne, UK. They say "An Englishman's home is his castle" but this seems to be taking security a little too far for a wooden shed in the middle of nowhere :-) Camera: Panasonic TZ10.
