This boat is now used to supply "essentials" (tea, coffee and ice cream in Summer) to tourists and canal-boat users. Photographed with a Sony RX100 compact camera and processed with Nikon Capture NX2 software.

This scene was photographed on the Leeds-Liverpool canal near the town of Nelson, Lancashire, in the North-West of England. The building is one of many former textile mills situated along this canal, most of which are now derelict since the cotton industry, once the main source of employment in this area has declined to almost nothing. Many former mills have been demolished and others are being converted into flats / apartments.

Could this be where "The Doctor" spends his time between trips through space and time? Seen on the Leeds-Liverpool canal near Barrowford in Pendle district, North-West England, and photographed using a Nikon D90 camera. Processed with Nikon Capture NX2.

This was originally a daytime photo of the frozen Leeds-Liverpool canal which didn't turn out the way I intended, so I did a bit of "tweaking" with PicMonkey to add the night sky and turned it into an evening shot using the "opacity" tool in my Nikon NX2 software. The camera used was a Nikon D300s.

The "Cafe Cargo" and boats near Foulridge wharf on the Leeds-Liverpool canal in Pendle district, North-West England. Foulridge: The "Mile Tunnel".
26 Aug 2013 |
|

|
The Northern entrance to the Foulridge tunnel on the Leeds-Liverpool canal which is known locally as "The mile tunnel" because it is one mile long and dead-straight. There are "traffic lights" at each end as it is only wide enough for one boat at a time. There is a well-known (true) local story of a cow named Buttercup which fell into the canal at one end of the tunnel in 1912, swam through and was rescued at the other end. Apparently it was "revived" with drinks of brandy from a nearby pub. Photographed with a Sony RX100 compact camera and processed with Nikon Capture NX2.

This large building (only part of which is visible here) once provided employment for people all over Pendle district. It was owned by Smith & Nephew and by BSN Medical Supplies in the past. It has been derelict for a number of years but has now been purchased by the local council for "Re-Development", possibly for conversion into flats (USA = "appartments") which is what is being done with others in the area.
