Atlantis is een tijdelijk kunstwerk in het kader van het Amsterdam Light Festival. Thema van dit jaar is ‘disrupt’ (verstoring). Dit werk toont een goed mogelijke toekomst van veel wereldsteden, met name die vlak boven of onder de zeespiegel liggen. Deze steden worden verbeeld door enkele van hun bekende wolkenkrabbers. Het werk is gemaakt door het Zweedse kunstenaarsduo Utskottet. De boodschap van kerst staat in schril contrast met dit. In de ochtend van Eerste Kerstdag heb ik deze foto genomen. Ik had gehoopt dat de lichten op dit tijdstip gedoofd waren (zoals de andere kunstwerken van het festival), maar dat bleek niet het geval. Wel kon ik profiteren van de stilte van Kerstmorgen: weinig publiek en slechts één vroege rondvaartboot. ‘s Avonds vaart een hele file aan boten langs dit en andere kunstwerken van dit festival. Theme of this year is ‘disrupt’. This work is showing a very well possible future of many world cities, especially those just above or under sealevel. These cities are depicted by some of their well known skyscrapers. The work was made by the Swedish art duo Utskottet. The message of Christmas is in stark contrst with this. In the morning of First Christmas Day I took this photo. I hoped the lights were switched off at this time of the day (just like the other works of art of this festival) but this was not the case. However, I could take advantage of the fact that there were only a few people around and only one early touring boat. In the evening it’s just rush hour, a whole row of boats are sailing behind each other along the artworks of this festival.
