Favoriet onderdeel van de kerstttijd. Een favoriet deel van de kersttijd is de stilte van de Kerstnacht of die van de volgende morgen. Aangezien het nog geen kerst is een foto van op een hek zittende meeuwen, die zich aan het poetsen zijn. Niet druk zoals gewoonlijk, geen geschreeuw en gekrijs, alleen stil zitten en zich poetsen. Opgave was ‘door een gat of opening’. Je kijkt door een voetgangerstunnel van de Kortjewantsbrug. Deze brug is gebouwd in de jaren 1960. De brug is ontworpen om voetgangers te scheiden van het autoverkeer. Deze scheiding werkte alleen niet: voetgangers maken geen gebruik van trappen en donkere tunnels en inmiddels zijn de andere onderdoorgangen bij deze brug afgesloten. De bouw van de brug betekende voor al het verkeer dat de kronkel in de route over de brug op de achtergrond werd opgeheven. Voor de scheepvaart betekende het weer een extra brug, de voorgaande brug werd laat in de 19e eeuw verwijderd. De naam van de brug verwijst naar de smalle doorgang in een brug waarin alleen het deel voor de mast werd geopend: de schippers moesten op hun want letten ('kort je want!') Op de achtergrond de Scharrebiersluis. Oorspronkelijk was hier een sluis, en er werd goedkoop bier verkocht, vandaar de naam. Sinds 1876 ligt hier een brug, in 1906 werd deze brug vervangen door de stalen ophaalbrug die je nu ziet. You are looking through a pedestrians tunnel of the Kortjewantsbrug. This bridge was built in the 1960s and was designed to separate pedestrians and car traffic. However, this separation did not work, pedestrians do not use stairs and dark tunnels and in the mean time all other pedestrians tunnels near this bridge were closed. The building of the bridge meant that all landtraffic did not need to make a weird twist over the bridge in the background anymore. For shipping traffic it meant an extra bridge, the previous bridge was removed in the late 19th century. The name of this bridge refers to a narrow opening in a bridge where ships with masts could sail through: skippers had to watch their rigging: the bridgemaster would have warned: ‘shorten your rigging’. In the background the Scharrebiersluis. Originally there was a lock or sluice and cheap beer was sold (scharrebier = cheap beer, sluis = sluice or lock). In 1876 a bridge was built, in 1906 it was replaced by the steel drawbridge you see in the background. Opgave was ‘winkels’ of ‘winkelen’. Winkels halen heel veel trucs uit de kast die jou doen besluiten om spullen te kopen die je niet nodig hebt. Op de foto dan ook geen aantrekkelijk geprijsde artikelen die in de aanbieding zijn, geen mooie, kleurrijke presentatie, geen gelikt verhaal, maar de zijmuur van een kleine supermarkt in Amsterdam. De foto is genomen op een grauwe dag en in zwart-wit. Supermarkten gebruiken ook vreselijke muziek, vandaar ook de muziekkeus. Als een anti-commerciele stunt maakte Jean-Michel Jarre slechts één exemplaar van deze plaat. In 1983 werd de plaat slechts één maal uitgezonden op een AM radiostation. Opgave was ‘kunst van metaal’ In de provincie Flevoland liggen zeven stukken land-art. Één van die zeven is de Polderland Garden of Love and Fire. Ontworpen door Daniel Libeskind en geïnspireerd op een gedicht van de Spaanse dichter Juan de la Cruz. Daniel Libeskind is ook de architect van het Joodse Museum in Berlijn en Ground Zero in New York. Het kunstwerk bestaat uit vijf rechte lijnen: drie sloten (‘kanalen’), een betonnen wandelpad en een strook met aluminium beklede platen. De foto toont een klein deel van de aluminium platen, beschenen door de ochtendzon. Honderd jaar geleden kwam de Eerste Wereldoorlog ten einde. Nederland was neutraal, maar voelde wel sommige gevolgen: er werden één miljoen vluchtelingen opgevangen (op een bevolking van 6½ miljoen) en brandstof en voedsel werden gerationeerd en gestandaardiseerd (bijv. eenheidsworst). Vijfentwintig jaar later was Nederland in het midden van de Tweede Wereldoorlog en was bezet door Nazi-Duitsland. In de nacht van 1 mei 1943 stortte op deze plek een bommenwerper neer. Alle bemanningsleden kwamen om. In 1943 was het hier nog IJsselmeer en in 1959 werd begonnen om Zuidelijk Flevoland droog te leggen. In 1968 viel het land droog. Tien jaar later werd op deze plek tijdens graafwerkzaamheden het wrak ontdekt. Om dit te herdenken werd op de windmolen dit gedenkteken aangebracht: de datum 1 mei 1943, een silhouet van de bommenwerper en het logo van de Engelse Royal Air Force. In de bodem van Flevoland liggen nog vele vliegtuigwrakken uit de oorlog. – – – One hundred years ago World War One came to an end. The Netherlands were neutral, but it felt some consequences: one million refugees were housed (on a population of 6½ million) and fuel and food was rationed and standardised. The ‘eenheidsworst’ (standardised, unitary or uniform sausage) was introduced as all meat had to be made into that kind of sausage. The word ‘eenheidsworst’ still stands for something of low quality and/or always the same and without variation. Twentyfive years later The Netherlands were in the middle of the Second World War and was occupied by Nazi-Germany. In the night of 1 May 1943 a bomber crashed on this location. The whole crew died. In 1943 it was still Lake IJsselmeer here. In 1959 works started to reclaim Zuidelijk Flevoland (Southern Flevoland). In 1968 the land was completely drained. Ten years later a wreck was discovered during digging works. To commemorate that a silhouette of the bomber together with a logo of the Royal Air Force and the date was put on to the windmill. Opdracht was ‘negatieve ruimte’. Op de foto een landschap uit de provincie Flevoland, ten westen van Almere. Nu is het boerenland, in tde toekomst wordt het onderdeel van Almere. In 1968 viel dit land droog, de vierde polder van de Zuiderzeewerken kon worden ontgonnen. Wat onderdeel was van het IJsselmeer werd land. In 1978 werd een viegtuigwrak ontdekt op de plek waar nu de rechter windmolen staat. Het was een bommenwerper, neergeschoten in de nacht van 1 mei 1943. Om dat te herdenken werd op de windmolen een gedenkteken aangebracht: een silhouet van de bommenwerper, de datum en het logo van de Engelse Royal Air Force. – – – On the photo a landscape of the province Flevoland, west of the city Almere. Opdracht was ‘november’. Meestal is november guur en nat en de bomen zijn vrijwel kaal. Welnu, de weersverwachting laat niets van dat alles zien. De komende tijd overwegend droog, zonnig, zacht en weinig wind. Geen typische herfststorm in zicht. En dat is de hele herfst al zo. En dat laat zich zien in de bossen, de bomen hebben nog veel bladeren. In Lightroom heb ik de foto een ‘dromerige’ verschijning gegeven, aangezien het weer nogal dromerig is. Dit d.m.v. het zwart-wit maken en de helderheid sterk te verminderen. The month november is usually bleak, wet and windy and the trees have lost their leaves. Well, the weather forecast does not show anything of this november weather for the coming time. The forecast shows mainly dry, sunny, mild and not much wind. Not a typical autumn storm in sight. And this is already the whole autumn. And the forests show that: there are still many, many leaves on the trees. Since the weather is quite dreamy I gave the photo in Lightroom a ‘dreamy’ appearance by turning it into black an d white and decreasing the clarity down to zero. De meeste Amsterdamse gebouwen staan dan ook op heipalen van 15 à 20 meter lang . Die rusten op zandlagen op die diepte. Gedwongen perspectief is een optische illusie: voorwerpen lijken groter of kleiner dan ze in werkelijkheid zijn. Bij sommige mensen is dit tot kunst verheven: zijn hebben onmogelijke figuren gecreëerd. Voorbeelden: M.C. Amsterdam is in an area with layers of peat and clay, not the best ground for buildings. Most buildings in Amsterdam are standing on driving poles of 15 to 20 meters long. These poles are resting on sandlayers on that depth. Forced perspective is an optical illusion: objects appear bigger or smaller than they are in reality. Some people made forced perspective into a form of art. Well known examples are M.C. Opdracht was iets te schieten van wat je de afgelopen twee jaar hebt geleerd. Op de foto de drie snelste lopers van de Marathon van Amsterdam, net voorbij het 35km punt. Meestal schiet ik geen sportieve evenementen en ook mensen spelen amper een rol in mijn foto’s. Welnu, SSC biedt de gelegenheid om wekelijks een ander onderwerp te fotograferen, ook al zou je dat anders niet doen. En dat is wekelijks onderhoud en uitbreiding van je kennis. Kennis en ervaring die je kunt gebruiken voor de momenten waarop je wel je favoriete onderwerp fotografeert. Voor deze foto wist ik niet welke sluitertijd geschikt was voor het fotograferen van hardlopende mensen. Nu weet ik dat een sluitertijd van 1/320 net iets te langzaam is. Uiteraard heeft dat gevolgen voor de overige zijden van de belichtingsdriehoek. Herkenbare opdrachten zijn selectieve kleur en de derdenregel. – – – Challenge was to shoot something from what you learned the last two years. On the photo the three fastest runners of the Marathon of Amsterdam, just past the 35 km point. Usually I don’t shoot sports events and also people play scarcely a role in my photos. Well, SSC offers the opportunity to shoot a subject, even if you wouldn’t do it normally. And this is a weekly extension and maintenance of your knowledge and experience. These you can use for the moments where you do photograph your favourite subjects. Before this photo I didn’t know what shuttertime is adequate for the photographing of running people. Now I know a shuttertime of 1/320 s is a little bit too long. Evidently this has consequences for the other sides of the exposure triangle.
