Op pakjesavond geeft Sinterklaas veel cadeaus en surprises, vaak vergezeld van een gedicht. – – – On St.Nicholaseve (5 december) Sinterklaas (or Sint for short) gives lots of presents and surprises (French pronunciation). Many are accompanied with a poem about the receiver and the present. A surprise is, well, a surprise. Sinterklaas is an old man very wise He thought let’s make a very cool surprise As life is not a chocolatebox But it surely rocks A chocolateletter with a never ending result He thought it was quite difficult The effect was the letter disappeared And how much Sinterklaas ever peered It was gone into the smallest bits He just hopes that this fits…. St. Nicholas is the patron saint of Amsterdam, hence the three St.Andrews crosses, these are in the coat of arms of Amsterdam.
