Years ago, I took my family to visit an ecological reserve called Cerro Cahuí at the shore of Lago Petén, Guatemala. The tropical forested trail ascended about 350 meters vertical over a distance of 5 kilometers ending at a “cooling hut” with an outstanding view of the lake. There were even some benches fashioned from the trunks of trees for us to sit on.
