Impact Crater

12 Jul 2022 7 4 223
Coming from the outer reaches of the solar system an extraterrestrial body impacted the Colorado Plateau in what is now Northern Arizona about 50,000 years ago during the Pleistocene epoch. The iron meteor created an enormous crater and devastated the surrounding woodlands inhabited by mastodons and other megafauna. Shockwaves traveling through the air and ground effected a large area and enormous amounts of rock and ash were ejected into the atmosphere. A look over the edge of this crater shows the frightening power of such collisions. This photo was taken by a Hasselblad 500C medium format film camera and Carl Zeiss Distagon 1:4 f=50mm lens with a Hoya 67mm Infrared R-72 filter using Konica Infrared 750 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.

Meadowood

In my dreams there is a surreal glow in the images that flow through my mind. What I envisage is bright but dark at the same time. Plants convert sunlight into life-sustaining food through a chemical process involving chlorophyl, water and various mineral nutrients. The infrared emission signature of each species of plant is unique for that variety as can be seen in this photo of a mixed forest. What a barren and lifeless place Earth would be without the energy supplied by the sun in it’s different light wavelengths. Beyond The Swirling Clouds

We could climbup to the mountaintop. We could fly on the wings of an eagle. But we can't get any higher than this. After careful consideration I have selected my Christmas tree. It comes pre-decorated with a galaxy of shining stars so as to light up the night in order to guide Santa on his appointed rounds. This photo was taken by an Asahi Pentax 6 X 7 medium format film camera and Super-Mult-Coated Takumar/6X7 1:4.5/75 lens with a Smardy IR 720 filter using Konica Infrared 750 film, the negative scanned by an Epson Perfection V600 and digitally rendered with Photoshop.
